Main Characters

 

 Scout: An aggressive 6 year old girl. Her brother is Jem. She loves to read and fight. She stands up for her opinions.

 

Jem: A boastful 10 year old boy. His sister is Scout. He loves to protect his sister and is very loyal and thoughtful. He loves to take on some good dares.

 

Dill: He's a mischeivious little 7 year old boy. He's very interested in Boo Radley and any other myths. He is from Meridian, Mississippi but stays at Maycomb for the summer.

 

 Atticus: The father of Jem and Scout. He is a lawyer and his wife died when Scout was 2. He has more education than most colored people. He is also blood related to most everyone in Maycomb County.

 

Arthur (Boo Radley): Once a teen gone bad, now he's dead but people believe that he is a  "ghost". This is how the Boo Radley myth started.

 

Calpurnia: She is a maid/worker that is African American. She is very strict and she cooks for the family. She also fights with Scout a lot.


 

 

 

The Relatives of the Finches:

 

Uncle Jack: He's Atticus's brother so he is the unmarried uncle to Jem and Scout. He wants to marry Miss Maudie. He would come over to Scout's house every Christmas and then they would all go to the Finches Landing. One time he pulled a splinter out of Scout's foot while she was laughing at his jokes. Scout loves Uncle Jack. He has a cat named Rose Aylmer that is a beautiful yellow female.

Aunt Alexandra: Atticus's sister. She is an Aunt to Scout and Jem. She would always stick to the family's tradition. She lives up the Finshes Landing but she came to Maycomb to help Atticus raise Scout and Jem.

Francis: A boy that lives at the Finshes Landing. He likes the opposite of what Scout likes.

 

 

The Radley's:

 

Mr. Radley: A skinny man in the neighborhood. He would never go out, except for getting his groceries. He has two sons, Nathan and Arthur Radley. His family would be religious at home instead of going to church. He wasn't a very social person.

Mrs. Radley: The wife of Mr. Radley. She was also very unsocial and she would only come out to water her flowers. Once she was seen running out of her house screaming that her husband was getting attacked by Arthur.

Mr. Nathan Radley: He was the elder brother of the radley family. Parents: Mr. and Mrs. Radley. He was just as unsocail as everyone else in the family. It was seen that sometimes he would come from town and he would be carrying a magazine with him home. He also was seen holding a gun saying that if any blacks came around his house to steal things, he would shoot them.

 

 

The Women of the Neighborhood:

Ms. Stephanie: A woman that lived in the neighborhood that would tell stories to Jem and Scout. She would talk a lot about Boo Radley and how he became a ghost.

Ms. Rachel: The aunt of Dill. She takes care of Dill during the summer.

Ms. Henry Lafayette Dubose: She is considered the meanest woman in the neighborhood and she has come down with a sickness. This sickness caused her to take morphine but she didn't continue her use of it so she passed away.

Miss Maudie: A sweet old lady in the neighborhood. She cares for her flowers very much and makes amazing cakes for Jem and
Scout.

Mayella: She is the eldest daughter of the Ewell family. Her father is Robert E. Lee Ewill.

Mrs. Merriweather: She is part of Aunt Alexandria's group of the ladies that come over to talk about the town's events. She is the Methodist and the most devout lady in Maycomb.

Sophy: She is Mrs. Merriweather's black maid.

Mrs. Farrow: Another woman who attends Aunt Alexandria's group. She has pale eyes, grey hair, and narrow feet. She is the second most devout lady in Maycomb.

Mrs. Roosevelt: A person from Birmingham that came down to Maycomb.

Mrs. Perkins: She is one of the ladies that attends Aunt Alexandra's meetings.

Helen: The wife of Tom Robinson. She has 3 children with him.

Ruth Jones: Is a welfare lady in Maycomb. She gives welfare checks to Robert Ewell.

 

 

The Men of the Neighborhood:

 

Mr. Avery: A man who lives in Maycomb. He helped Miss Maudie when her house was burning down. He likes to carve as a hobby.

Mr. Tate: The Maycomb Officer, like the police of the town.

Mr. Gilmer: He is the opposing lawyer against Tom Robinson in the court case. He is the lawyer of the Ewells.

Mr. Underwood: An editor and writer of the Maycomb Tribune.

Reverend Sykes: Is a Reverend of the First Purchace church that is rented by the African Americans on Sundays.

Robert E. Lee Ewell (Bob): He is the father of Mayella. He also has 6 other children but his wife died a long time ago. He was in the court case where he sued against Tom Robinson.

Tom Robinson: Is a cripled black man because he got one of his arms stuck in a cotton gin. He was in the court case against Robert E. Lee Ewells. He did the most capital offense in Alabama. He has a wife named Hellen and they have 3 children. One of them is named Sam.

Mr. Link Deas: He is an owner of a store in Maycomb. He lets Helen work for him. He doesn't like Mr. Robert Ewell.

Judge Taylor: He is the judge of Tom Robinson's court case. He is known for interesting characteristics in the court room. He has a wife named Mrs. Taylor and a dog named Ann Taylor.

J. Gimes Everett: He is a white man that is trying to get the Mrunas into a society.

Dr. Reynolds: He is a town doctor that goes to people's houses when they are sick. He has known the Finches since Jem's birth.

 

 

 School Characters:

 

Mrs. Gates: Scout's third grade teacher. She is racist against black people. Although, she hates Adolf Hitler.

Mrs. Caroline: She is Scout's first grade teacher. She moved to Maycomb from North Alabama. She is not accustomed to Maycomb's ways. She is educated in college and she is teaching the Dewy Decimal System.

Walter Cunningham: A poor boy that went to school with Scout in first grade. He has to take months off of school because he has to help his father with field work.

Cecil Jacobs: He is a boy at Scout's school. He scared Scout and Jem once when they were coming home from a  pagent.

Little Chuck Little: He is a kid that went to Scout's first grade class.
